Marisha Farnsworth took a trip to Costra Rica to help build some bamboo structures.
"We built these two structures in a period of six days at the Costa
Rica campus of Pitzer college, the 145 acre Firestone Center for
Restoration Ecology. All the bamboo used for the structures was
harvested from the plantation at Firestone and treated on-site with a
borax solution. We used guadua and asper poles 6" in diameter; one
pole took two people to lift."
The outdoor classroom was designed by Darrel DeBoer. Imagine it without the
vertical poles which are bracing the structure while the concrete in
the foundations and internodes sets."
