Japanese Hand Tools and Joinery Classes - Summer 2011

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Held at Laney College Woodtech department. Sign up at Peralta College.
Code 30324 Class starts June 6 ends 3 August, every Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-10 pm.
$72 Course fee, 2 credits
Students must supply their own basic tools and wood. Limit is 30 students.

Held at Merritt College Landscape Horticulture Department. Sign up at Peralta College.
Code 30515 Class starts June 6 ends 3 August, every Monday and Wednesday evenings 6-10 pm.

ON-GOING JOINERY CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS AT JAY’S SHOP These workshops will focus on projects ranging from tool boxes,saw horses, plane making (I have ordered plane dai from japan -takes 2 months delivery) and other small personal and larger projects (rebuild the front entry gate at KoHan-en). Sundays 10am-2pm. Starts Sunday , May 15. sequence of 6 classes =$ 250. class size is max 10, lunch included. (pre-arranged skips can be added on)

Gate building- we are going to rebuild the rear gate that will be installed in KoHan-en Japanese garden in Lakeside Park, Oakland. (where we built the new fence). Monday 15 aug-sat 21 aug. $650, includes lunches, you will need your own tools. This gate will offer an opportunity to work on structural joinery, posts on stone bases, lay out, planing, bark shingles, and installation. We will be assisted by Richard Wiborg in this project.

Jay will be a featured speaker at the Ultimate Joinery Weekend fall 2011 Woodworking in America show on Friday sept 30 and Saturday October 1 at Northern Kentucky Convention Center across the Ohio River from Cincinnatti sponsored by Popular Woodworking Magazine.

He will discuss and demonstrate Japanese tools and joinery, other speakers include Roy Underhill, Peter Follansbe-Plimouth Plantation, Adam Cherubini-18th cent columnist , and many others.
