Class Schedules
 -2008/08/23-2008/12/13 Every Saturday from 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm, Jay van Arsdale teaches Traditional Japanese Hand Tools & Joinery I and II, and Small Yard and Garden Structures. See the Laney Summer 2008 Class Schedule.

Jay van Arsdale teaches Japanese woodworking classes at Laney College and at his shop. His classes cover traditional Japanese woodworking tools and joinery. Basic tools include noko-giri (saws,) nomi (chisels,) kanna (planes,) sumi-sashi (layout pens) and sashigane (squares.) In the introductory classes Jay also covers sharpening. A lot of sharpening. After you've sharpened you tools you can enjoy the hands-on joinery work that's a joy to look at and do, that function as well as you can ask for.

Schedule: Saturdays at Laney College 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. To enroll in classes go to http://www.peralta.cc.ca.us/ and follow the direction for new students. The following classes are available for Spring and Fall semesters:

Laney College is located at 900 Fallon St., Oakland CA (across from the Lake Merritt BART Station and Oakland Museum).
